What is a PolaWalk?
Over the past couple of years, people started meeting up using sites like Flickr, Facebook and Twitter to organize “polawalks”. We saw this as an opportunity to find like-minded film photographers to shoot with. It is a social gathering for analog instant film fanatics, amateur photographers and last but not least: skeptical digital enthusiasts. We meet up monthly at various locations, and we all enjoy the creative whirlwind that these events create for our followers. We provide a place to learn about instant photography – a slower form of analog magic and chemical processes. It tests your knowledge as well as your skills and pushes the boundaries in which your creativity thrives.
Who shows up to the PolaWalks?
These events appeal to a broad spectrum of people. From beginners who don’t know how to load their cameras to hard core film aficionados that have been shooting instant film most of their life, the Polawalks provide the perfect platform for an instant education. Because there is such a variety of cameras and films being used the walks, it is a great opportunity to learn from experts about these niche areas within the world of instant photography.
Do I have to pay to join the IFS on PolaWalks?
No. PolaWalks are free events that we host to help spread the word about instant photography. The only thing you need is an instant camera, some film and a willingness to learn.
What do I need in order to participate?
Any analog instant camera will do. You can find them everywhere. You just have to know where to look. Start by checking out the following places; Craigslist, eBay, Etsy, garage sales, thrift stores, estate sales, etc. All are great places to find and acquire one of these unique cameras.
